Reform Goals

Many Adoptees are asking for reform in the systems at place, especially within Privatized Infant Adoption and Foster Care. Here are some collective goals those with lived experiences have expressed to see:

Adoption

  • Ban profit adoptions
  • Open adoptions are a must, and must be legally binding (when safe)
  • Continuing education before, during and after adoption
  • Adoption annulment
  • Paperwork (Birth certificates, agreements and medical records) be accessible to the adoptee
  • Paperwork not change (I.e. changing of name, adding or replacing birth parents)
  • Low cost or free access to DNA kits
  • Low cost or free Adoption trauma informed therapists
  • Banning of targeting low income and People of color, and young age with adoption ads.
  • Support for keeping families together first and foremost
  • Better background checks, and more check ins after adoption is passed

Foster Care

  • No for profit agencies
  • More readily resources to parents and keeping children home unless abuse is occuring
  • Better report and prioritizing reports
  • Not have the system work against the parent
  • Child reunification focused
  • Therapy mandatory for families
  • Once a child ages out, not keeping them on the list, should they have their own children
  • Continuing education for case workers

I'm the mom to Matthew, which we run and own Matthew's Kitchen. I'm 27 and studying to be a pastry chef. I love to cook and bake but my passion is in the pastry arts. Matthew is a 5 year old who began cooking when he was 1. Through the years he has not only gained valuable skills but has grown his palette. Together we want to share our passion for food with you and your family
